Which past? He trabajado or trabajé

In Spain, the present perfect is for a time that isn't over (hoy, esta semana, esta mañana, alguna vez): Hoy he trabajado mucho. The preterite is for a finished time (ayer, el año pasado, en 2020): Ayer trabajé mucho. In most of Latin America the preterite is used for both: Hoy trabajé mucho. Both are correct; the app accepts either where both are natural.

  • Esta semana he leído dos libros. This week I have read two books.
  • El año pasado viajé mucho.Last year I travelled a lot.

How long: hace dos años que vivo aquí

To say how long something has been going on, Spanish uses the present tense: Hace dos años que vivo aquí, or Vivo aquí desde hace dos años (I've lived here for two years). With a starting point, use desde: Trabajo aquí desde el lunes (since Monday).

  • Hace dos años que vivo aquí.I've lived here for two years.
  • Hace un año que la conozco.I've known her for a year.
