Describing things: la casa nueva, el libro viejo

Adjectives usually come after the noun, and they match it: masculine or feminine, singular or plural. Nuevo becomes nueva, nuevos or nuevas. Adjectives ending in -e, like grande, only change for plural: grande, grandes.

Verbs that change their stem: pienso, duermo, pido

Some verbs change the vowel in their stem when it is stressed: pensar becomes pienso (e to ie), dormir becomes duermo (o to ue), pedir becomes pido (e to i). It happens in every present form except nosotros and vosotros: pensamos, dormimos, pedimos. You already know some: quiero, puedo, tienes.
