Dar makes lots of everyday phrases: darse cuenta (de) is to realise (no me di cuenta: I didn’t realise), me da igual is I don’t mind, dar una vuelta is to go for a walk or a drive, dar las gracias is to say thank you.
Hacer caso is to take notice of someone (no me hace caso: he doesn’t listen to me), hacer cola is to queue. Prestar atención is to pay attention. Acostumbrarse a is to get used to.
