How you feel: estoy cansado

Feelings and states that come and go use estar: Estoy cansado (I am tired), ¿Estás bien? The adjective matches the person: a woman says Estoy cansada, and with more than one it takes -s: Estamos contentos. Adjectives ending in -e or a consonant (triste, feliz) only add an -s or -es for plurals.

  • Estoy cansado.I'm tired.
  • Estamos contentos.We are happy.

Two ways to know: saber and conocer

Saber is knowing a fact, or how to do something: Sé dónde vive (I know where he lives), Sé leer (I can read). Conocer is knowing a person or a place, being familiar with it: Conozco a tu hermano, Conozco la ciudad. Both are irregular in the yo form: sé and conozco.

  • ¿Conoces a mi hermana?Do you know my sister?
  • Conozco la ciudad.I know the city.
