The weather: hace frío, llueve

Spanish uses hacer for most weather: hace frío (it's cold), hace calor (it's hot), hace sol, hace viento, hace buen tiempo. Use mucho for 'very': hace mucho frío. Rain and snow have their own verbs: llueve (it's raining, it rains) and nieva.

  • Hace frío.It's cold.
  • Llueve.It's raining.

Before and after: antes de comer

Antes de (before) and después de (after) take a noun or the plain infinitive: antes de la cena, antes de comer, después de trabajar. Where English says "before eating", Spanish says antes de comer.

  • antes de comerbefore eating
  • Camino después de la cena.I walk after dinner.
