Who, which, where: que, quien, donde

Que joins most descriptions: el puesto que solicité (the job I applied for). After a preposition, people take quien: la persona con quien hablé. Places take donde: la empresa donde trabajo.

  • El puesto que solicité es muy bueno. The job I applied for is very good.
  • Me dieron una oferta que me gusta. They gave me an offer that I like.

Passing it on: dice que, me dijo que

To pass on what someone says, use dice que: mi jefe dice que trabajo bien. When it was said in the past, the verb steps back too: me dijo que estaba cansado (he told me he was tired), me dijo que tenía una entrevista.

  • Mi jefe dice que trabajo bien.My boss says I work well.
  • Me dijo que tenía una entrevista. She told me she had an interview.
