Verbs with their own little word: pensar en, soñar con

Some verbs always bring a preposition: pensar en (to think about), soñar con (to dream of), depender de (to depend on), confiar en (to trust). It stays at the front in questions: ¿en qué piensas? (what are you thinking about?).

  • ¿En qué piensas? What are you thinking about?
  • Soñé con el mar.I dreamt about the sea.

Without anyone…: sin que

Sin + infinitive when it’s the same person: salió sin decir nada (he left without saying anything). Sin que + subjunctive when it’s someone else: lo hago sin que nadie lo sepa (I do it without anyone knowing).

  • Salió sin decir nada.He left without saying anything.
  • Adiviné la respuesta.I guessed the answer.
