To him, to them: le and les

Le means 'to him', 'to her' or 'to you' (usted), and les means 'to them'. They go before the verb, like me and te: Le doy el libro (I give him the book), Les escribo (I write to them). Spanish often repeats the person too: Le doy el libro a mi madre.

  • Les escribo.I write to them.
  • Le doy el dinero.I give him the money.

Me too, me neither: también and tampoco

To agree with something positive, use también: Tengo hambre. Yo también. To agree with something negative, use tampoco: No tengo dinero. Yo tampoco (me neither). With gustar it's a mí: Me gusta el café. A mí también. No me gusta la carne. A mí tampoco.

  • Yo tampoco.Me neither.
  • Yo también estoy cansado.I'm tired too.
